Getting up in front of people to talk can be pretty scary.  In fact, in many US surveys, fear of public speaking ranks at the top of things we're afraid of - right up there with snakes, heights and flying!

"I know how so many of us feel about public speaking because I used to be so afraid myself.  But I learned how to overcome my fear and nervousness, and now I have spoken in front of thousands of people to standing ovations.

And, now I teach and coach the secrets of successful public speaking!"

What to remember before giving that presentation:

 1. Assure yourself.

You are the expert. You know what you are talking about, and know more than the audience does about the subject.

2. Put the jitters to good use.

It sounds counterintuitive, but the "butterflies" can provide a huge source of energy.

3. Breathe.

Relax. Everything is going to be fine. When we get nervous or excited, we tend to hold our breath. And that just makes things worse.

4. Speak slowly.

You will automatically speed up your speaking when you are in front of the audience -- whether it is a room of 50 or a stadium of 20,000. It may seem too slow to you, but it will sound good in front of the crowd.

5. Practice.

Practice, practice, practice. Know your speech cold. Know it so well that if your note cards get lost, or out of order, you can still carry on flawlessly.
