There are multiple opportunities this type of participation which will build employee morale and earn loyal customers. For example, your organization could volunteer to raise money for a charity such as the Dumb Friends League, or your staff could participate as a group in a charitable event such as the Race for the Cure. This type of community participation lifts morale because participants will feel good when they have done something for a good cause. Participating together also demonstrates teamwork and reinforces a concrete image of a high performance team. Finally, this kind of participation raises awareness of your organization as a good corporate citizen.
Community participation also offers multiple opportunities for networking because it exposes participants to other community-based organizations such as service clubs or chambers of commerce. Here are a few suggestions:
- Join a chamber of commerce
- Join a civic and/or service organization
- Invite groups in for a tour or lunch.
- Create a speaker's bureau and develop a presentation to give to community organizations.
- Create a volunteer program for employees
- Participate in community holiday celebrations
- Build a company float and participate in community parades
Sponsorships
Another way to demonstrate good corporate citizenship is through sponsorships of local charitable organizations, schools, cultural events, sports and recreational activities, health and environmental issues, or other activities that reflect the interests of owners, managers and employees. The following categories of participation may be useful in determining the best fit for your organization.
